The case study “Energizing Women’s Participation in Local Governance through Voice and Economic Empowerment” highlights a collaborative initiative between Azito Energie and the IFC in Azito Village, Côte d’Ivoire. The project aimed to foster inclusive governance and socio-economic growth by empowering women and youth. Historically excluded from decision-making, these groups received training in financial literacy, business skills, and governance. The establishment of the Azito Village Development Association, which included women in its membership for the first time, significantly enhanced community involvement and resource management. Key outcomes included improved perceptions of Azito Energie, increased women’s participation in local governance, and strengthened economic activities, such as the attiéké cooperative and a new fish market project. Overall, the initiative demonstrated a comprehensive approach to promoting economic resilience and inclusive local governance.
